Manage stress with Aromatherapy:

What is Stress?

The pace of modern life, pressures in the workplace and all the demands of life in a continually changing world, make this an age of “stress”. What can we do to help our selves to stay centered and balanced in the rapid change that is around us? What is stress?

Stress, now considered a normal part of life, can be a positive experience creating excitement, increased energy, clarity of thought and creativity. When we think of stress it is generally thought of as being a term used to describe negative emotions or feelings of anxiety or tension in situations that are overwhelming and difficult to deal with. When we are placed under demands and pressure it depends on how we view these demands as to how they will manifest in the body. Whether we think we can cope or if we feel helpless will determine the level of stress experienced.

Symptoms of stress

Physical - muscle tension, back ache, headaches, exhaustion, ulcers, heart attacks and more

Psychological - Depression, anxiety, feeling frazzled, overwhelmed, panic.

Behavioural - Poor concentration, lethargy, aggression.

Emotional - lack of confidence, fear, frustration, loss of interest, hysteria

Stress affects the body, lowers the immune system, slows body function and can lead to serious physical, mental or emotional imbalances. It affects performance in the workplace, effectiveness as a parent and also affects relationships. The body can usually adjust to stress, however if the stress becomes prolonged the body will try to adapt to the stress and will be in a flight or flight mode. The body will become exhausted, depleted and the individual may manifest digestive problems, headaches, insomnia, acne or eczema, or repeated infections. The individual will become restless, nervous, frustrated, exhausted and will not function optimally.

How can aromatherapy help?

Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy using essential oils from plants to balance the body, mind and spirit. Utilizing essential oils can balance the emotions and uplift the spirits. The oils have an emotional effect as well as a physical effect on the body.

Aromatherapy can help with stress management by a direct link to the limbic and autonomic system. The hypothalamus is the major control centre of the autonomic nervous system. It controls the sympathetic and parasympathetic divisions which activate the “fight or flight” adrenaline production. As we inhale the essential oils, there is a direct link to the limbic system of the brain via the olfactory nerve. This triggers the secretion of neurotransmitters such as serotonin which relax or uplift the spirits. Oils that are excellent for stress management include: Lavender, rose and chamomile. Citrus oils such as bergamot, mandarin, and lemon uplift the spirits, and clary sage and geranium are excellent for balancing the hormones. At sole revival you will recieve a customised blend, most suited to your needs.

A blend will be individually mixed for you and add this with the wonderfully relaxing beeifits of massage you will leave feeling totally relaxed and revitalised.

FAQ's

What should I expect on my first visit?

On your first visit, you will be asked a number of questions concerning general health, injuries and medical conditions that the massage therapist should know about, in order to determine if there are any physical conditions that would limit a massage treatment. You are then asked to undress, to you own comfort level, and to lie on the treatment bed under a towel. During the session, the massage therapist will expose only those parts of the body where the treatment is applied. No body area is massaged without your permission.

What are the benefits?

Aromatherapy doesn't just smell good, it also benefits you in many ways. Some aromatherapy benefits that are more commonly known include:

  • Relaxation and stress relief
  • Mood enhancement, balance and well being
  • Relief of minor discomforts
  • Boosting the immune, respiratory and circulatory systems

Essential oils have been used to:

  • Heal wounds
  • Energize
  • Improve skin tone
  • Relax muscles
  • Regulate hormones
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Relieve menstrual cramps
  • Improve sleep
  • Stimulate the immune system
  • Kill fungal & bacterial infections
  • Decrease sinus & lung congestion
  • Aid digestion
  • Relieve tension pains
  • Aid blood circulation

Will I have to undress in front of someone?

NO, You will be left alone to undress, lie on the couch and cover yourself with a towel.

How much clothing will I have to remove?

You will only have to remove as much as you feel comfortable with, you will never be forced to remove any more than you want to.
For a back, neck and shoulder massage only you back needs to be uncovered; so trousers, skirts and shorts etc. can be left on.
For a full body massage underwear is always left on.

What should I do during a massage?

Make yourself comfortable and relax. Many people just close their eyes and relax completely during the session; others prefer to talk. It's your massage, and whatever feels natural for you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions and you can ask for the treatment to end at any time. If I need to adjust your position, I will either move you (for instance lift your arm) or I will tell you what is needed. Otherwise, change your position anytime to make yourself more comfortable.

How will the massage feel?

It depends on the techniques used. A variety of techniques will be used such as effleurage-(a sweeping, relaxing stroke with varming pressure). Kneading- (Pressure from the hands to break down tension). Friction- (Focusing on problem areas, to release tension). The pressure will be adjusted depending on your needs; if you find it to firm or light just say and the pressure will be adjusted accordingly. Oil will be used to reduce friction on the skin.

Will it hurt?

Depending on the massage you require it may hurt to release the tension. Also you may ache after the treatment, you need to discuss any requirements in the consultation, the massage will be adjusted to suit your needs.

I have got sensitive skin which oils will be used?

Sensitive skin is extremely reactive to heat, cold and beauty products. Please mention this during the consultation. Before using some oil a patch test is usually recommended. This can be done in a free consultation at least 24 hours before the massage. The essential oils will never be used neat they will always be diluted in a carrier/ fixed oil like sweet almond or peach kernel oil for easy application. The following essential oils all very gentle and suitable for use: Chamomile, Sandalwood, Lavender, mandarin and Rose.

How should I prepare for a massage?

You just need to arrive clean and as relaxed as possible. Some people find a nice warm shower or bath helps them relax before they arrive.

What areas will be massaged?

Don't worry- no private areas will be exposed or ever touched. Only the areas you are comfortable with will be massaged, you can discuss this in the consultation the rest of your body will be covered at all times. The most important thing is that you relax and get as many benefits as possible from the treatment.

How long will the treatment last?

It depends on what you book. A Back neck and shoulder massage will last 30 minutes. Full body massage will last 1 hour. The Luxury full body massage will last 1 1/2 hours- giving you extra time to relieve more tension and knots. If at any point you want the treatment to stop all you have to do is say.

Can I bring someone?

No, sorry, for security reasons only one client at a time. However if you feel that it is a necessity then please phone 01379 741871 to discuss your needs.

How often should I have a massage?

It depends, the more stress and tension you have the more often you will need to come. Most people find it beneficial to have a massage every 1-4 weeks.
Typically a massage every week or two is ideal for getting you muscles more pliable and in better shape, then once you are feeling better a treatment once month is probably ideal for maintaining the health of your tissue. If you start leaving it too long then your muscles can revert to their old patterns and you'll have to start over again. Please feel free to discuss this in the consultation.

Is it confidential?

Yes. Your treatment will never be discussed by the therapist, you can tell as many people as you like though!! If you wish for me to discuss you treatment with anyone else I will need your pemission.

How do I make an appointment?

Feel free to email or ring.
CLICK HERE TO EMAIL ME. or phone 01379 741871. Just leave a message and I'll get back to you.

I never go a reply from my email

I'm very sorry to hear that. Please make sure your email address is typed in correctly. I cannot reply to you email contact form if there is a typing error in your email address. Feel free to phone and leave a message.

What if I fall asleep?

It is not uncommon for many clients to fall asleep on the table during a massage. The warmth and release of tension relaxes them right to sleep - especially after a long day at work.

Where will my massage session take place?

Your massage session will take place in a private, clean, warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort.

How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?

Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.
